Congratulations to Hayley Peeler, our 'Mom of the Month' for August!
Hayley has been a dedicated member of Stroller Strides since this past March. She is a former teacher who regularly attends class with her sweet daughter, Arrington, and is a SUPER hard worker! Hayley credits Stroller Strides with changing her life after moving to our area 2 years ago and not knowing anyone! She calls Our Village her surrogate family! Hayley has made great strides in fitness, motherhood, and life, and we are so thankful that she is an integral part of our group!
Join us in congratulating Hayley and read on to get to know her a little better!
Hometown (where you grew up): I was born and raised in Cranford and Watchung, NJ. I moved to Palm City, Fl right before 8th grade where I lived until my move to NC.
Current part of the Triangle that you live in: I currently live in Fuquay Varina with my husband and daughter.
Education (optional): I graduated from Florida Atlantic University with a bachelors in Elementary Education with and ESOL endorsement. GO OWLS!
Stroller Strides Member since: March 2016
Members of your Family: My amazing and supportive husband James and the love of our lives, our daughter Arrington.
Tell us about your children: My daughter Arrington is almost 10 months (please slow down time!) She is my everything! She's so determined and has such a happy, funny, and spunky personality. She absolutely adores daddy which just melts my heart. She's so loving and constantly showers us with hugs and kisses.
Current/previous Career: I'm currently a stay-at-home mommy, the best job in the world! Before I became a mom, I taught 1st grade down in Florida and taught 3rd grade up here in Morrisville.
What was your childhood ambition? Since before preschool I always dreamed of becoming a teacher, I loved to play school with my brother and stuffed animals. Most importantly though, since about the same time, I couldn't wait to be a wife and mom.
What does motherhood mean to you? Motherhood is everything to me! I live and breath Arrington. I love being able to nurture and instill our values into her and teach her about the world. It brings me more joy than I can ever describe watcher her grow, learn and play. Becoming a mom has changed me into a complete selfless person, putting her needs above all else. Her smile and "lovies" warm my heart and she's filled a piece of my heart I didn't know was missing.
What is the furthest you have been from home? I visited Spain when I was in middle school
What does Stroller Strides do for you (or mean to you)? Stroller Strides has changed my life! I moved to NC about two years ago to join my husband who had been here about a year before me. We had no friends or family, they're all in either Fl or NJ. I felt so lonely and out of place being here, I longed for friends and family. Once joining SS, I felt at home, it became my surrogate family. I have friendships now that I cherish and hold so close to my heart. Not only do I have that family I longed for, Arrington has it too with her baby friends and other mamas.
What is your favorite exercise? I love anything to do with strength training.
What is your proudest moment? I'm so proud of myself for all I have accomplished in my career and personal life so far. I'm so proud to be James' wife and Arrington's mom. I'm proud of all of her milestones this far and the ones to come!
What are three of your favorite things (besides your family!)? I love cooking/baking, hiking, and crafting.
Tell us something about yourself that would surprise us or makes you unique. I have always wanted to write children's books. My husband James and I have actually created a character and concept for the book(s). I just need to find time to write!
If we asked your spouse what they think your best qualities are, what would they say? Hmmm, I'd have to say James thinks I'm a "crazy jersey girl"! But if he had to be nice, he'd say I'm a very caring and devoted person, great cook and baker, and very determined and trustworthy.
What advice would you give to moms looking to get back into shape? I'd tell mom's to jump right in! Do something for yourself! We've all been there, hesitant to get off the couch, wondering if we are ready and if our child will cooperate and sit in the stroller long enough to get a good workout in. I can say, yes you're ready! And yes they will sit still and love watching you workout and sing to them! It's okay if you walk and not jog, modify workouts until you're comfortable or able. But once you do, it will be one of the best decisions you've made for you and your child!
