Congratulations to Jodie Strong, our 'Mom of the Month' for March!
Jodie has been attending Stroller Strides classes with her sweet son, Caleb, since last summer. Not only is Jodie a regular in class, but she is a super-long distance runner, as well! Check out her interview to see just how long I'm talking about...you'll be amazed! Jodie has made great strides in fitness, motherhood, and life, and we are so thankful that she is an integral part of our group!
Join us in congratulating Jodie and read on to get to know her a little better!
Mom of the Month Questions:
Hometown (where you grew up): Charlotte, NC
Current part of the Triangle that you live in: Cary
Education (optional): BS degree from Appalachian State
Stroller Strides Member since: June 2015
Members of your Family: Dan, Jodie, Caleb
Tell us about your children: Caleb was born on October 24, 2014 and is our little ray of sunshine. He loves books and makes us laugh every day!
Current/previous Career: My last job was working for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society on their various fundraising campaigns, helping to get donors and participants connected with the society.
What was your childhood ambition? I always had a deep desire to help others.
What does motherhood mean to you? I've always admired my mom, so of course I wanted to be like her. Motherhood has been a challenge, but an incredible adventure. Wouldn't trade it for anything!
What is the furthest you have been from home? Ireland
What has Stroller Strides done for you (or meant to you)? Stroller Strides has been a source of connection that I desperately needed, being new to the area, and it's helped me to find common ground with moms just like me.
What is your favorite exercise? Endurance Running
What is your proudest moment? This question took a long time to figure out how to answer. It might sound cheesy, but I'm pretty proud of how I'm doing with being a mom.
What are three of your favorite things (besides your family!)? Crunching leaves in the fall, laying on the beach, and reading.
Tell us something about yourself that would surprise us or makes you unique. I completed 80 miles of the Keys100 ultramarathon. I'm determined to go back and tackle the event again in a few years!
If we asked your spouse what they think your best qualities are, what would they say? He would probably say my thoughtfulness and compassion.
What advice would you give to moms looking to get back into shape? Don't force yourself to do something you don't like. Pick activities that you enjoy and do them. The most important thing is to keep moving forward!
