Congratulations to Melissa O'Conner, our 'Mom of the Month' for July!
Melissa has been a dedicated member of Stroller Strides with her adorable side-kick, Shawn, since last September! We love her sass (especially when accosted by a grumpy lady at Lake Pine) hidden withing her calm exterior! Melissa is an incredibly hard worker and inspires everyone around her. She has made great strides in fitness, motherhood, and life, and we are so thankful that she is an integral part of our group!
Join us in congratulating Melissa and read on to get to know her a little better and find out what cool former job she had!

Stroller Strides Member since: September 2014.
Members of your Family: My husband Brian and our son Shawn plus my fur babies Chewy and Willow (toy poodles).
Tell us about your children: Our son, Shawn, will be turning 1 on July 31st! He is very sweet and has a sense of humor. He has stolen our hearts!
Current/previous Career: I was the assistant controller for a freight forwarding company. I also handled HR for a while.
What was your childhood ambition? I wanted to work for National Geographic and live with the lions to study them!
What does motherhood mean to you? I feel like it changes and I'm still learning what it means to be a mom, but it's definitely unconditional love!
What is the furthest you have been from home? Vancouver, Canada.
What has Stroller Strides done for you (or meant to you)? It has been an immeasurably valuable resource for me. I didn't know anyone when we moved here but I was able to meet so many great moms and make friends. SS has been that community I need for support, advice and friendship! I love the workouts and I'm so thankful to have found it!
What is your favorite exercise? Hmmm squats maybe or plank.
What is your proudest moment? Other than giving birth... my years volunteering with the Greensboro Junior Women's Club and the year I served as President.
What are three of your favorite things (besides your family!)? Animals, travel and movies!
Tell us something about yourself that would surprise us or makes you unique. I volunteered at a wildlife rehab center for a while. My favorite job was feeding the owls.
If we asked your spouse what they think your best qualities are, what would they say? He said my determination and being a great mom.
What advice would you give to moms looking to get back into shape? Find something that you think is fun! It might sound strange, but I also think it's important to find workout clothes you like and feel comfortable in.
